Cards and board games

Bingo is immensely popular with residents, but it would be a good idea to introduce a variety of card and board games, especially the ones that could be stimulating for the mind. Keeping the mind sharp is important for people of all ages, but it’s even more important as we get older.

Group the residents according to their cognitive abilities and encourage them to play games like Poker, Yahtzee or Candyland. You can also give prizes or small treats to the winners.

Musical events

Music stimulates the brain. One study revealed that older adults who play musical instruments scored better in cognitive exams as compared to those who do not.

Considering that not everyone knows how to play an instrument, you can opt for group sing along sessions and choose songs from various decades. Feel free to ask the seniors what their favorite songs is and include them on the list.

Social activities

Humans are social animals. While there are a lot of activities that seniors can do on their own, keep in mind that group activities are significantly more satisfying.

Social activities like birthday parties and food-centered activities are a big hit with residents. Some would like to take part in decorating the hall, while others are interested in baking a cake, cookies or brownies to be served as dessert.

These events provide the perfect opportunity for the residents to socialize while preparing for the aforementioned social activities.
